“There is no threat to the public,” says NYPD after responding to the Barnard College pump scare

The New York Police Department responded to, and then cleared a bomb threat at the Milstein Center in Barnard College on Wednesday.

“Anyone who refuses to leave the location is subject to arrest,” said the New York Police notice. “Please stay away from the area.”

Then, just before 8 pm, local time, the New York Police announced that it had eliminated the threat and concluded that there was no threat to the public, according to a follow -up publication on social networks.

“The incident of the threat of the bomb in Barnard College has been investigated and authorized,” said the publication. “There is currently no threat to the public. Continue to avoid the area and wait for traffic delays.”

The threat of the pump occurred after an earlier interruption in the day at the Milstein Center, in which “Masked disruptive” entered the building in the middle of the classes and the preparation of the dining room, according to a statement from Barnard.

He said: “Barnard is committed to promoting a safe environment where all students can learn and that all members of our community are respected. Our academic mission is in the heart of what we do, and interruptions to that mission are an affront with the purpose of higher education and cannot be tolerated.”

The University of Columbia, which is separated from but affiliated with Barnard College, issued a statement on the interruption that said, in part, “we are in contact with the leadership and security team of Barnard while addressing the situation and we will continue to monitor it closely. The interruption of academic activities is not an acceptable behavior. We are committed to supporting our body of Columbia and our community of Campus during this challenging time.”

Barnard’s statement pointed out that campus activities on their campus advanced as normal after the initial incident. In an hour, however, the New York Police was first alerted to an alleged bomb threat in the same neighborhood.
