Texas floods: Governor Greg Abbott calls a special legislative session for flood emergency planning

The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, convened on Monday a special session for the state legislature to discuss emergency procedures and early alert systems following mortal floods earlier this month.

“We must ensure better preparation in the future,” said Abbott in A statement Posted in social networks.

The session is scheduled to start at the local noon time, according to A press release of his office.

More than 130 people were killed earlier this month as the historical sudden floods crossed the Texas center during the weekend on July 4.

In addition to three missing people in Kerr County, three people still were missing in Travis County and a person who appears as missing in Burnet County, according to the most recent update last week.

Abbott said on Sunday that the special session would address the preparation and recovery in case of future floods.

The agenda of Monday’s sessions is expected to include discussions about flood warning systems, flood emergency communications, relief financing and preparations and recovery of natural disasters, said Abbott.

It is also expected that the session that begins on Monday covers the legislation proposed by a redistribution plan for Congress districts, which could be promulgated to create more seats for Republicans.
